You said that Sonic doesn't shoot deadly lasers. Clearly you have never played Sonic Shuffle or Super Smash Bros Brawl. Sonic shoots deadly lasers in both games. Also if shooting deadly lasers makes you evil, Then Tails was a villain in Sonic Adventure 2. Also in Sonic Shuffle, Sonic puts Tails, Amy, and Knuckles in a frying pan and cooked them alive! And that's in story mode! And you still think Sonic is a hero! And the thing about Eggman using animals as batteries. In Sonic Adventure 1&2 Sonic kidnaps small animals and uses them to power up his Chao. How is that any different from using them as batteries? Also when the small animals are robotezed by Eggman. They become stronger, faster, more durable, become immune to diseases and radiation, and according to Sonic 06 their lifespan increases to over 2,000 years. So what's the down side? According to the TV shows and comics they lose their free will and emotions. If this was true, then it would be very bad indeed... But there is no evidence that they lose their free will and emotions. But plenty of evidence of the exact opposite. Metal Sonic CHOSE to betray Eggman because he FELT that Eggman was in his way. Omega CHOSE to make killing Eggman his mission in life because he was ANGRY at Eggman for locking him in a room (Even though that was probably Metal Sonic's fault). The Eggpawns CHOSE to run away from Metal Sonic because they were AFRAID of him.Gamma CHOSE to betray Eggman because he FELT that Eggman was wrong.
In Sonic Lost World Orbot CHOSE to ask Sonic if he could be his sidekick because he FELT he would be better off with him. (Although Sonic Shuffle proves that he is better off working for Eggman.) In Sonic Runners Orbot & Cubot CHOSE to run from Sonic because they were AFRAID of him. In the cut scenes of Sonic CD the badnik's clearly express that they are AFRAID of Sonic. Is there a single robot in the Sonic games that doesn't have free will and emotions? I don't think that there is. Because if Eggman could use roboticization as a means for mind control. Then why would Eggman need Hyper-go-on energy? This proves that the robotezed small animals are attacking Sonic of their own free will. And it helps explain why they are willing to jump into LAVA to get away from him. Now you might be wondering what justification Eggman has to use things like Hyper-go-on energy and the Death Egg. Sonic is a monster who DESTROYS WORLDS ON WHIMS.In "Sonic And The Black Knight" Sonic destroys Merlina's world and the only explanation he gives to why he did that was, he thought Merlina's attempt to save her world was boring. THAT'S MIND-BLOWINGLY EVIL!
Eggman has NEVER done ANYTHING even remotely as evil. Also this free will thing isn't limited to the games. In Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog: In the first episode Robotnik offers a bunch of bounty hunter robots a reward if they catch Sonic. If they didn't have free will and emotions that would be unnecessary. Coconuts also betrayed his own allies so he could steal the credit for catching Sonic. That proves that he has free will and emotions. Scratch and Grounder also appeared to have free will and emotions. And all of this is JUST the first episode. I'm sure that there are even more examples like that in that show. In Sonic SatAm: There was an episode where there were robots playing pool and doing other things that suggested that they had free will and emotions. The only one who didn't ACT like he had free will was Sonic's uncle who has a motivation to pretend to have lost his free will. And the show openly admitted that he was a spy that was pretending to work for Robotnik. So he clearly has no problem with lying to advance Sonic's agenda. In Sonic X: Decoe, Bocoe, and Bokkun all clearly had free will and emotions. There was also a teaching robot that Eggman made that also clearly had free will and emotions. And Sonic destroyed said robot mercilessly. In the Sonic comics: Many of the robots that have free will from shows and games have appeared the comics too. Also in the comics robots like Crabmeat express emotions. In Sonic Underground:
One of Sonia's friends was a robot that clearly had free will and emotions. And Sonic and Manic came up with a plan to KILL this friend of Sonia's right after singing a song where the chorus was "Don't be a backstabber". And their reason for wanting Sonia's friend dead was because her voice was annoying. THAT'S A HORRIBLE REASON TO KILL SOMEONE! Also Sonia is Sonic's SISTER! Which makes what he did even worse. Also Sonic was a communist (which is suggested by all the capitalism hate speech in the show, plus there is a town that was run by Sonic's mother that was clearly a communist town.) and if you have researched communism you would know how evil it is. Also in communism you have no rights. Marx advocated ten rules in his Communist Manifesto for the forced redistribution of all land and property for the good of the national community. This is theft, They are forced to join the new Communist government—whether they like it or not. This, of course, must be done with a “might is right” frame of mind: lots of men with guns show up and take everything you have “for the glory of the motherland,” as the Soviets might have said. Odd for a character like Sonic who supposedly values freedom to support an ideology that's completely against freedom. Although it shouldn't be a surprise, Sonic has a long history of hating freedom. In Sonic CD: Eggman was robotizing flowers which don't have the freedom to move and probably can't think or feel. Eggman gave them freedom with robot bodies and Sonic took it away.in Sonic 06:
Sonic doesn't seem to care at all that Elise is the ruler of a dictatorship. In Sonic SatAm: Sonic's plan for stopping Robotnik's plan to rule the world was was to re-establish king Acorns dictatorship and merry his daughter. Thus making himself the ruler of the world. In the comics: Sonic takes this a step farther. Because in the comics a democracy is established in Mobius. But when they do comics about the future, Sonic is the KING of Mobius. Which means Sonic DESTROYED democracy to establish his own dictatorship. And finally back to Sonic Underground: Sonic's reason for wanting to find his mother is so he can establish his own dictatorship. And I know I haven't said anything about Sonic Boom. But that's because I have never watched it. No matter what evil action Eggman has done I can always name something that Sonic has done that's even WORSE. Also here is what someone else wrote for why Eggman is the hero of the series."
by RickyAcorn Eggman is the hero of the series. Bored, bored, bored... Time for a new topic!!! YAY!!! So, did you know Eggman is really the hero of the series, and Sonic and friends are the villains??? I'll go game by game and explain. Sonic 1: Dr Eggman starts kidnapping poor helpless animals, and putting them in robotic bodies. Except, how can you kidnap an animal? Its like saying, I'm kidnapping my pet dog. Eggman is actually saving these animals. In Eggman's robotic suits, the animals are more intelligent and are able to protect themselves from predators. Meanwhile, Sonic destroys the suit, and drops the animal into hot lava or down a bottomless pit or lets the animal drown in Labyrinth Zone. Also, sure Eggman is polluting Scrap Brain Zone, but he is going after a clean source of infinite energy! Think about the advantages such an energy source could provide! While Sonic is worried about the effects using that energy source could have on ONE small island in the middle of nowhere where nobody lives but some animals. Sonic is basically an eco-terrorist!Sonic 2:
Eggman doesn't start building his ultimate weapon until his encounter with Sonic. Obviously, the Death Egg is self defense. What does Eggman do that's bad in this game? He mines in a cave. Saves more animals, while Sonic drops them off a plane and stuff. Sure, Eggman is building weapons, but so what? Name one country that doesn't produce weaponry.Sonic 3 And Knuckles:
Eggman is definitely bad in this game, he lies to Knuckles! He says Sonic and Tails are trying to steal the Chaos Emeralds. But is Eggman lying? Sonic and Tails HAVE been trying to get the Chaos Emeralds for two whole games... Eggman is just warning Knuckles. He knows how out of control Sonic is. Dr Eggman is only on Angel Island in the first place, because of Sonic destroying his Death Egg. He just wants his self defense systems back up and running, and as soon as that happens, he'll leave. Eggman even helps Knuckles and Angel Island by artificially controlling the weather. Think about how useful that is. And he gives the animals his robotic shells that make them safer and also more intelligent. Sonic Adventure even shows that badniks can talk and think for themselves. Knuckles should be thanking Eggman for freeing the animals from their bestial nature, and civilizing them. "But Eggman stole the Master Emerald!!!" you say. Well, The Master Emerald is a source of clean energy. You could power the whole world by that one emerald. Knuckles is the bad guy, here. Knuckles wants to waste all that energy by keeping ONE island in the air. When that energy could go to ending oil refineries and all pollution on the planet. We know how much pollution Sonic's world creates, there is an entire ocean made out of oil!!! Eggman is trying to save the world! But Sonic is like "Nope, the animals need this source of world piece, so they can do absolutely nothing with it!!!" Also, how many times has Angel Island lost its Master Emerald? Quit a few. And how many times has is sank to the bottom of the ocean because of it? Not once! Knuckles is exaggerating to make himself look better for hogging all that energy.Sonic CD:
"Look at the bad future?? See?? Eggman IS evil!" you say. Well, you're wrong. Outcome doesn't necessarily equate to morality. Eggman's intentions can be good, but the outcome not so much. Besides, what do you see ALLOT in the bad future? That's right pollution! Now, if only there were some way Eggman could have avoided all that pollution... Like some sort of emerald that holds infinite energy. Oh, wait, there is, and Sonic kept Dr Eggman from getting it! This future is Sonic's fault. Sonic always stopped Eggman from getting the Chaos Emeralds, so Eggman's utopia collapsed. "But what about the good future. Its all peaceful and pretty!" you say. Well looks can be deceiving. The only technology we see in the good future are stuff Eggman built in the present and bad future. The people of Tiny Planet built off of Eggman's technology. But also, the good future has LESS technology than Eggman's "bad" future. Let's say you get sick. Where would you rather be? An old, run down hospital, that still works? Or in the middle of a beautiful forest? Eggman's future isn't as pretty or idealistic, but it IS the better option!Sonic Adventure 1+2:
"Eggman wants to use Chaos/Eclipse canon to take over the world, he's definitely evil!!!" Nope, not at all. Sure Eggman wants to take over the United Federation, however, have you SEEN the united federation? In Sonic X, all the police are completely incompetent and lazy, and the military uses excessive force. In the games, we know the military MURDERED a ton of people on board the Ark, including Eggman's grandfather and aunt. Eggman is taking down a tyrannical government. I wouldn't be surprised if the military rigs all the elections to make sure who they want remains in power. Sure, he does threaten to blow up the world, however, its all a bluff. If Eggman blew up the world, he would die as well. He can't live on the Ark forever. And he does launch a missile into Station Square, but I'm guessing that was a bluff too. The missile was a dud. And it was Chaos and Shadow who end up being the real threat in both games. Sonic Heroes: Eggman just gets kidnapped in this game. He doesn't do anything wrong, here. Shadow the Hedgehog: Again, Eggman doesn't do anything bad, other than defend himself from the tyrannical United Federation, and help save the world from the Black Arms. Sonic 06: "Eggman kidnaps Elise!!" Because Elise is a super dangerous being, who can destroy the world just by cutting onions. Its better that she be kept under control. Since Elise is a monarch, nobody else is able to keep the world safe from Elise. Elise is too powerful. But Eggman is trying to control and use the flames of disaster. This would not only save the world from Iblis, but also provide that energy source Eggman is always searching for. Eggman can't help it if he was fooled by a being who EXISTS OUTSIDE OF TIME. Also, Sonic leaves Eggman to die in this game.Sonic Unleashed:
"Eggman destroys the world!!! EVIL!!!" Except, the world wasn't destroyed. Everyone was fine with the shattered world. And Eggman nearly completed Eggmanland, and found a clean source of energy. Dark Gaia possessing everyone wasn't Eggman's fault. He had no idea Dark Gaia would collapse in on himself. And at the end of the game, when Dark Gaia reformed (Which is what Eggman had been trying to do from the beginning) everyone was freed from Dark Gaia's control. But, Sonic just wants to get in Eggman's way again, and halt progress. Sonic Colors: "Eggman enslaved an alien race!!!" Did he? Do we know these aliens were sentient? Sure, Tails could communicate with Yacker, but we can communicate with monkeys and dolphins. It doesn't mean they are humans. And we don't see any signs of an organized civilization on any of the planets the Wisps inhabit. The Wisps are just like dolphins or monkeys. They can communicate, but are still animals. Animals that can provide a renewable resource to power multiple planets! Sure, SOME of the Wisps are transformed in the process, but at the end of the game, we see some Wisps who powered Eggman's final machine NOT transformed. So it appears Eggman had finally perfected the process of removing energy from wisps without harming them. So its about as much "enslaving" them, as milking a cow is enslaving it.Sonic Generations:
Eggman goes back in time and remove his greatest failures. Sonic goes back in time and puts them back in. What does Eggman remove? Sonic CD's bad future, Iblis destroying the future, Gun Trucks destroying parts of Capital City, Biolizard nearly destroying the world, his ultimate weapon the Death Egg. So, when Eggman accidentally causes these things, he's bad, but if Eggman goes back in time and tries to undo these mistakes, he's still bad... Sonic should be siding WITH Eggman. Doesn't Sonic want these objects to be erased from history, too? Wasn't that the whole point of him fighting Eggman? Nope, Sonic just wants to oppose anything Eggman does, no matter how much it benefits the world. Sonic Lost World: Eggman controls ANOTHER dangerous monster, the Deadly Six. He only loses control because of Sonic. And then works with Sonic to try and stop them. "But Eggman nearly destroyed the world at the end of the game!!!" Actually, no. Eggman did stop the machine. However, he finally had a chance to destroy Sonic. And he knew that you obviously can't undo millions of dollars in damage just by pressing the "reverse" button. Something Tails is too stupid to realize, and wastes a large portion of the energy the Deadly Six collected, meaning that the planet's sacrifice WAS in vain. But, atleast the trees are green again... Besides, the whole thing was SONIC'S fault. So when Eggman unleashes a force that could destroy the world, in order to use that force to benefit society = bad. When Sonic unleashes a force that could destroy the world, in order to just mess up whatever Eggman is doing = good. So, there you have it. Eggman is good, and Sonic is evil."
RickyAcorn came up with a strong argument for why Eggman is the hero. But missed a few things like in Sonic Generations Eggman erasing Station Square being destroyed by Perfect Chaos and Sonic knocking toxic barrels into the ocean in Sonic Spin ball. But I didn't cover everything either. It's clear either Eggman is the hero of the series. Or there is no hero in the series.
